Coach Turner’s Story

As many of you know, John is one of the 6 million people in the United States living with Alzheimers. When he received the diagnosis 8 ½ years ago it shocked and devastated us. He was 52 with no family history of the disease and otherwise very healthy. Since John’s own diagnosis we have learned that this disease can strike anyone at any time.

With John, Alzheimers started as an occasional and unexplained loss for words or lapse in understanding. It has progressed over the years to affect many parts of his life; deteriorated speech and ability to express himself, loss of driving ability, and overall decrease in independence. While Alzheimers has taken a lot, John is a relentless fighter. Since the time of his diagnosis, he has fought like hell to slow the progression of the disease following every recommendation from his doctors. It is not an easy road and he misses his old self. But we are committed to not giving up hope.
